The innovative Waterbox Plant method is being used in the afforestation project at the S. Pedro de Baleizão reservoir, in the heart of Alqueva.
The investment in innovative and disruptive systems focused on the challenges currently faced by ecosystems, namely those related to climate change, is a strategic plan of Synerg, especially when it is possible to compare
results with the systems traditionally applied in the forestry sector.
In the afforestation project at the S. Pedro de Baleizão reservoir, in the heart of Alqueva, the innovative waterbox plant is to be compared with alternative installation scenarios, namely with a traditional irrigation system (using a drip system) and without an irrigation system.
The waterbox plant are reservoirs of 10 to 12 litres capacity, which supply water to young plants by capillarity, through a nylon thread buried near the root system of the plant.
EDIA's objective is to compare the success of the tree-planting projects, checking the mortality rate
in the plants installed at the end of one year. It is understood that these three scenarios can be compared in terms of installation (and maintenance) costs, yield/productivity in forestry operations and, of course, the retanking (replacement or substitution) of plants that did not thrive.
Synerglobal believes that investment in innovation is a differentiating factor in the services it offers, because it produces unrivalled levels of knowledge for the organisation, promotes commercial competitiveness and lends technical credibility to its contract management teams.
